The International Federation of Gamefowl Breeders Associations (FIGBA), Inc. is a federation of legitimate gamefowl breeders associations in the Philippines that promotes gamefowl breeding as a cultural, recreational and tourism activity.

The Federation envisions itself as the country’s foremost gamefowl breeders organization that is dedicated and committed to promote the sport as an industry and a noble tradition, where gamefowl breeding is revered as a national pastime and a sport that depicts the true meaning of Honesty, Integrity and Fairplay. Its mission:

  • To uplift the gamefowl industry as one of the movers of our economy.
  • To promote the sport as a source of livelihood to millions of Filipinos.
  • To protect the inherent right and passion of every gamefowl aficionado to enjoy the sport as a part of our country’s tradition.

Even as the Federation continues to grow, it has also spread its wings to partner with international breeders to share its best practices with them and assist in organizing their group into a formal association. In November 2016, FIGBA signed a Memorandum of Agreement with its first international member, the Marianas Gamefowl Breeders Association or MGBA, which is based in Saipan.

Currently, the Federation is grateful for the loyalty of its 37-strong member associations with over 7,000 member-breeders and counting. This year, FIGBA is also coordinating with some groups from South East Asia who expressed their desire to join the Federation.

The Federation organizes gamefowl-related events with five (5) major events each year, namely:

  1. FIESTAG, a 3-day exhibit or stag festival held every third weekend of August where all our member-breeders showcase their best brood stocks.
  2. FIGBA BAKBAKAN national wing banding activities, held from January 5 to 15 for early bird and April 1 to 15 for national BAKBAKAN stag derby.
  3. FIGBA BAKBAKAN Early Bird Stag Derby, initiated by local member associations and runs from July to August with national finals set to coincide with the Fiestag.
  4. BAKBAKAN Stag Derby, the biggest and most awaited event each year which runs from the last week of October and culminates with the grand finals in December.
  5. PRESIDENT’S CUP held in March, where each member-association is represented in a fellowship derby by its local president vying not so much for the prize money but more so for the prestige of being tagged as the champion among champions.

But FIGBA does not exist just for the sport. As part of its corporate social responsibility, the Federation established the NFGB Foundation back in 2008 to share in nation building and contribute to the improvement of the quality of lives of fellow Filipinos nationwide. Since then, it has been providing financial assistance not only to workers within the gamefowl industry and their families, but to neighboring communities as well.  Its projects include scholarships, construction of classrooms for public schools, medical/surgical missions, and livelihood assistance for cooperatives/marginalized sectors. The Foundation also helps government agencies like the DSWD and the Philippine National Red Cross by providing financial assistance during calamities. Funding for the Foundation comes from 25% of the net proceeds of BAKBAKAN.
